A WW2 Salerno Landings, Battle of Monte Casino & North West Europe, Serving Brother of the Order of St John, SJAB Medal Group awarded to D/Supt W. E. Riddell, 5th Bn Hampshire Regiment.

Walter Ernest Riddell was born on the 2nd of November 1914 at Portsmouth, Hampshire.

During WW2, Walter served with the 5th Battalion the Hampshire Regiment, seeing action at the Salerno Landings in 1943, the Battle of Monte Cassino in 1944, then North West Europe during the final stages of the war.

He later served in the Hampshire Branch of the St John Ambulance as 40654 Divisional Superintendent, becoming a Serving Brother, with the London Gazette announcement dated the 3rd of January 1969.

The medals are mounted as worn, sold with some copied research, his original ribbon bars, and are as follows -

Serving Brother of the Order of St John, 4th Type Breast Badge, unnamed as issued; 1939/45 Star; Italy Star; France Germany Star; Defence Medal; 1939/45 War Medal, all unnamed as issued; Service Medal of the Order of St John, with 6 five year service bars, 40654. D/SUPT W.E. RIDDELL. HAMPSHIRE. S.J.A.B. 1949

Condition, chip to the enamel of the Serving Brother Medal at 6 o’clock, otherwise good very fine
