A 1936-1937 N.W.F India General Service Medal and Possible WW2 'Fall of Singapore /Hong Kong’ P.O.W Medal Group to 12953 Sepoy Sultan Mohd, 1/14th Punjab Regiment.

12953 Sepoy Sultan Mohamed served with the 1/14th Battalion, the Punjab Regiment during the minor skirmishes on the North West Frontier of India.

During WW2, the 1/14th Punjab Regiment fought at Monte Cassino in Italy. As Sultan is sporting a Pacific Star, one can only assume that he was serving with one of the four Indian Battalion’s captured by the Japanese (1st, 2nd, 5th, & 6th Battalions) when Singapore and Hong Kong ‘fell’.

A total of 67,340 Indian soldiers were captured by the Japanese between December 1941 and March 1942. Many of them were used for bayonet and target practice.

The medals are mounted for display, sold with some copied research, and are as follows.
