Walter Goddard Saville was born on the 6th of August 1886 at Braintree, Essex. Prior to joing the ranks of The Queen’s Royal Regiment (West Surrey), he worked as a Postman.
During WW1, Walter served with “C” Company in the 7th Battalion and was wounded in action on the 18th of November 1916 during the Battle of Ancre. He was subsequently captured by the Germans and held as a P.O.W. Walter survived the war and later returned to his duties as a Postman, for which he was awarded the Imperial Service Medal.
