Stanley John Richard Pooley was born on the 29th of May, 1900, at Plymouth, Devon.
He joined the ranks of the Royal Navy on the 8th of July, 1918, serving aboard H.M.S. Tiger for the remainder of WW1. Stanley continued to serve with the Royal Navy during WW2, and he was serving aboard H.M.S. Norfolk when she intercepted a German cargo ship (Uruguay) on the 16th of March 1940, and was subsequently scuttled. She was then, on the 19th of March, attacked and damaged by German Stukas, a bomb penetrating the shell room causing serious damage.
Stanley’s service records show that he was on land with H.M.S. Drake from the 6th of November 1940, but nothing else on his record. His L.S.&.G.C. is named to H.M.S Hermes.
