An India Service Medal 1895, Punjab Frontier 1897-1898 Clasp, WW1 Trio Casualty K.I.A. (Ypres) Medal Group awarded to 3378/10057 Cpl J Lomax, 1st Battalion, the Somerset Light Infantry.

John Lomax was born on the 14th of April, 1878, at Witcombe , Somerset. He attested on the 5th of November 1891, joining the ranks of the Somerset Light Infantry, serving with the 1st Battalion during the Mohmand campaign.

John went on to serve with the 1st Battalion during WW1 , landing in France on the 29th of June, 1915, and was sadly killed in action a week later on the 6th of July 1915.

The Battalions War Diary reads that John was probaby K.I.A during an attack on an enemy position (please see attached research). The attack resulted in 1 Officer Killed, 27 NCO’s / Other Ranks Killed, 102 NCO’s/Other Ranks wounded, 5 Missing.

John Lomax is buried at the Talana Farm Cemetery, Ypres.
