A WW1 1914/15 Star Medal Trio awarded to 15048 Sjt A.W.J. Allen, 8th Bn, the Somerset Light Infantry.
Alfred William John Allen was born during 1880, at Barnstable, North Devon.
Pte Allen disembarked France on the 2nd of October, 1914, with the 8th Battalion, and was medically discharged due to sickness, on the 14th of February 1918. Alfred is entitled to S.W.B. No. 321857.
The 8th Battalion were part of the 21st Division during the attack on Loose on the 26th of September, 1915, where the Division suffered 3800 casualties. The 8th Bn were in action in 1916 during the Battle of The Somme, and then during 1917, the Arras Offensive, and the 3rd Battle of Ypres.
